Caring, Medical and Educational Overseas - Aid (CAMEO-Aid) is an independent non-profit organisation whose mission is to improve the quality of life of disadvantaged people in Africa and the non industrialised world. CAMEO-AID intends to achieve this by improving their health care and education and the supply of water and sanitation facilities.
CAMEO-AID defines the disadvantaged as people who suffer high incidents and impact of major health problems and challenges, whether occurring naturally, through acts of war or natural disasters. Such health problems will include dysentery, diahorrea, malaria, HIV/AIDS, leprosy, malnutrition, adolescent and reproductive health problems. Such problems are made worse by the lack of adequate and safe water and sanitation systems and the lack of health care facilities.
CAMEO-AID was founded in 2002 to answer the call for help for people affected by the ongoing civil war in South Sudan. The organisation currently works in England and Ireland and will endeavour to develop its programme of delivering aid directly to those in greatest need through partnerships with recognised NGOs operating in deprived areas of Africa, especially South Sudan. Ultimately we would hope to work directly with the people to whom we deliver this aid.
CAMEO-AID believes it should develop specific strategies. These are
v Help people to help themselves
v Find the most effective aid and the best ways of delivering it, and
v Encourage a greater awareness of the problems of the poor and encourage governments to help relieve them.
CAMEO-AID has defined its aims as:
v Increasing basic medical and health care facilities and capacity
v Improving education facilities and capacity
v Delivering clean water and basic sanitation,
v Developing clinical outreach services to remote areas,
v Development of health learning materials,
v Promoting empowerment through education and training
v the developing of volunteer teams to deal with routine medical and surgical operations for short periods
v Developing a disaster and emergency response capacity,
The CAMEO-AID programme is totally dependent on the income it receives throught donations, fund-raising events and grants. We welcome the support of the health and education establishments, the water and sanitation industry and the general public
It will fundraise in the developed world. In the short term this will be mainly in Ireland and the United Kingdom. Donors are expected to include individuals, government, foundation, trusts, Business and Commerce. In addition CAMEO-Aid wishes to extend its fundraising activities into other EU and overseas countries.
