Do you care about those, in the third world, who are less fortunate? Have you a strong desire to improve their lot? |
| This charter sets out the rights and obligations of Trustees. The greater participation of Trustees in the direction and development of the charity is encouraged. This charter is part of the open policy of CAMEO-Aid and is set out in the hope that prospective Trustees will be more fully aware of what the charity is seeking in its leadership, and see for themselves opportunities for their participation and fulfillment. |

What is a Trustee? A Trustee is the legal guardian of the assets of the Charity. Each Trustee contributes to the development of policies for the future direction of the charity, to the monitoring its operations and to ensuring that its operations comply with all regulatory and legal requirements. |

What we would expect Trustees to have? |
We would expect a Trustee to have: |
Time |
To attend meetings and functions and carry out other agreed tasks. |
Talent |
To create "Added Value" for the Charity and to enable Trustees to complete agreed tasks |
Treasure |
We like to lead by example. We proudly boast that all out Trustees donate to our cause. Trustees are encouraged to make financial contributions to the Charity and to seek contributions from others. With such a positive approach it is easier to ask Donors, staff and volunteers to become contributors |
Commitment |
To develop policies and undertake such tasks that will build the capacity of the charity to meet its aims and objectives. |
Empathy |
With the needs and expectations of our donors and recipients, staff and volunteers, and towards the goals which the charity is trying to achieve. |
Knowledge |
General knowledge of the needs of recipients and the conditions under which they live, and/or specific knowledge of charity work. (This requirement is desirable - however, training will be given) |
| What we would expect Trustees to do! |
We would expect a Trustee to: |
Enjoy their participation in our mission |
You become a Trustee because you expect to get something from it. That "something" can be any number of different positive things. We hope that you also enjoy your time with us and your participation in delivering our aims and objectives. |
Attend all meetings and training sessions |
Nominally 4 meetings per year |
Participate actively in the work of the Board |
Attend all meetings and contribute towards the development and operation of the charity |
Become familiar with our Aims and Objectives |
Read our Trust Deed |
Contribute to the successful building of the Team |
We wish to foster an inclusive atmosphere within the charity |
Participate in one or more specialist areas of policy development |
Aid giving, operations, recruitment and training, finance and accounting, resource acquisition, attracting donors, grant applications, etc (See List Below) |
Exercise independent judgement |
Remain objective; ensure good governance and transparent accounting and reporting |
Introduce new donors |
Donor development is a core activity for the charity. We ask our Trustees to attract donors from their social and business spheres. |
Add Value |
The Trustees are the stewards of the charity. It is their duty to develop policies which lead the ongoing development of the charity. If CAMEO-Aid is to succeed it must keep moving positively forward. |
Assist with the recruitment and training of other Trustees |
The charity needs to recruit and train a certain number of new Trustees each year. These are to replace those who retire and are time barred from reapplying, or who leave for other reasons. Such recruitment and selection requires dedicated effort to seek out interested personnel and undertake a selection process to ensure that they are suitable and would welcome the opportunity to be involved |
| What are the rights of the Trustees? |
Trustees rights |
Involvement |
To be equally involved in all discussions and policy decisions |
Notification |
To expect to receive notices of meetings together with the agenda and all notes for such meetings. To expect to have available to them all management reports, notices of events and functions and to receive such mailings normally distributed to supporters |
Training |
To have access to appropriate training and information so as to enable them to more fully undertake their role |
Support |
To expect such support in completing their roles, as is deemed necessary. |
Expenses |
To be reimbursed for any agreed expenses incurred while undertaking work on behalf of the charity. |
Retirement |
Each Trustee should feel they can retire, if they so wish after a specific period. This is nominally set at three years, however, a Trustee can elect to fulfill a second term. After this it is recommended that they have a "fallow" year, to recharge the batteries. In that year they will be entitled to participate in the running of the charity as an interested supporter. At the end of the year they can again put themselves forward for election to the Board for a further term. |
